Black maternal health is of major concern to our community. But research consistently shows that Black women are more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than women of any other racial group. In addition to pregnancy complications, Black women also experience higher rates of chronic health conditions such as:

  • High blood pressure

  • Diabetes

  • Heart disease

  • Autoimmune disorders

Despite these risks, many Black women report that their pain, symptoms, and medical concerns are often dismissed or misunderstood within healthcare settings.

This is not because our bodies are weak.

It is because the healthcare system is failing many Black women why women's health awareness is very important.

Healthcare Disparities Affecting Black Women

Several systemic barriers contribute to the Black maternal health crisis, including:

  • Limited access to quality healthcare

  • Implicit bias in medical treatment

  • Financial barriers that delay care

  • Lack of preventive screenings

  • Providers not fully listening to patient concerns

These challenges can lead to delayed diagnoses, untreated conditions, and dangerous pregnancy complications.

The Power of Advocacy in Healthcare

Black women deserve better healthcare outcomes and better support.

Improving maternal health starts with:

✔ Listening to patients’ voices
✔ Expanding access to preventative care
✔ Addressing bias within healthcare systems
✔ Encouraging women to advocate for their health

Knowing your body is power.

  • Asking questions is power.

  • Getting second opinions is power.

  • Bringing an advocate to medical appointments is power.

Your health matters.
Your voice matters.
Your life matters.

And this blog exists to remind you of that.
